Two Saints Way Guidebook

The Assignment:

To design a guidebook for a medieval pilgrimage route, including information on historical sites along the way, as well as detailed maps showing the route and other useful information.

Challenges:
  • Sourcing accurate maps and working with detailed coordinates – making a good looking map is a lot of work – it has to be accurate and up to date, but also keep things simple so users can quickly find the information they need.

  • Creatively meeting expectations – people who walk these kinds of routes have a certain expectation for their guide books – the size, organisation and map-style – which need to be taken into consideration, while also making it beautiful and user friendly.

Solution:

Spark created a simple colour-coding system to divide each section of the route.

The historical information and the route information was also clearly defined for those who wanted to simply walk, and those who wanted to walk and learn!
